Psych Sphere is an annual psychology-based program designed to help students explore the many dimensions of the discipline. This year, the theme was "Positioning psychology in the context of contemporary global crisis" and was organized on 28th and 29th May. In this two-day event, we had panel discussions and exhibition rooms around the theme along with networking with professionals working in different settings, fun psychology quiz and solving murder mystery using deduction skills.
The first day of Psych Sphere 2.0 was quite eventful. It started with a panel discussion on the topic “Where does Psychology stand in the age of Global Uncertainty?”. The panel consisted of Dr. Sailesh Shrestha, Anita Prajapati and Atuleisha Thapa and was moderated by Thames 8th Semester student Sanjeeta Chand. The next event was a networking event where students from across the semester got a chance to meet with twelve working professionals in the field of psychology who had expertise in various fields and were working with different populations.
The second day had quite a competitive spirit with games where multiple teams participated. Psych-ed: A fun psychology quiz was conducted in a model called “Infinite loop”. Six teams participated in the quiz. “Team-A” which consisted of Philosia Sherma, Bishupal Rana and Aagaman G.M won the quiz competition. The next game was a murder mystery game where ten teams participated. The teams had to find out the murderer and motive using the clues they were given. It was a brain stimulating game where the students were required to use deductive reasoning to reach the conclusion. “Venus” which consisted of Pragree Risal, Soengma Limbu and Lani Lama won this game.
Other than the scheduled events, Psych Sphere also had four experiential rooms that were open to all from 9am to 4am on both the days. The rooms included exhibitions of pictures and readings on “Coping Strategies in the time of conflict” and “Trauma Informed Approach”. Following the theme, these rooms included how people in conflict zones have been showing resilience and about what includes trauma informed approach, respectively. The experiential zone also included a sensory room that had elements to interact with to activate all of our five senses and empathy and compassion room to get engaged with themes around kindness and empathy.
