Thames Assemblage 2022

Thames International College successfully hosted Thames Assemblage 2022 at The Taragaon Museum, bringing together three signature events: Nepal Social Work Symposium, Nepal Business Gabfest, and Art Carnival, into a dynamic two-day celebration of interdisciplinary dialogue, cultural expression, and social innovation.

This unique gathering was a collaborative effort among the college's academic schools and student-led clubs. The School of Social Sciences, in partnership with the Social Work Club, organized the Nepal Social Work Symposium, aligning with the Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development. The School of Business and Technology, supported by the Management and IT Clubs, led the Thames Business Gabfest, focusing on the intersections of business, technology, and global affairs. Simultaneously, the Office of Student Affairs, in collaboration with various student interest groups, brought to life the Art Carnival, a vibrant showcase of visual arts, performance, and creative exploration.

Under themes ranging from social justice and identity to geopolitics and creative expression, the event featured plenary talks, panel discussions, theatrical performances, art exhibitions, book talk, and musical showcases. Highlights included a keynote address by Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Former Prime Minister of Nepal, who shared insights on Nepal's socio-economic future, and a compelling session on geopolitics led by Sudheer Sharma, Editor-in-Chief of Kantipur Daily.

A major attraction was the panel discussion on cinema and society, featuring prominent voices such as Dayahang Rai, Deeya Maskey, Bhushita Vasistha, and Manoj Pandit, moderated by filmmaker Sampada Malla. Their dialogue explored how cinema can influence thought, amplify marginalized voices, and challenge dominant narratives.

From flash mobs and theatre to thought-provoking presentations like "Dalit: Quest for Dignity" and musical reinterpretations of Tharu folk music, Thames Assemblage 2022 offered participants an immersive space to engage critically and creatively.
