About the Session:
Titled “Holding Space: Rethinking How We Comfort Others,” this session is centered around the ways students show up for thier friends and peers during difficult times. Often times despite wanting to support someone people care about, they feel unsure about what to say or how to comfort them. Questions about whether they are saying the right thing or how the other person may respond can sometimes make these moments feel overwhelming.
Through this session, studen hope to create a safe and supportive space for these conversations while offering opportunities for reflection and simple emotional tools to better understand what it means to truly hold space for someone.
The session will take place across two days, each filled with interactive activities, conversations, and reflections. On the second day, students will also be making friendship bracelets for their friends as a reminder that we are all in this together.
Who is this session for?
This session is for anyone who has ever felt unsure about how to comfort a friend in distress and wants to better understand how to support others during difficult times. It is for those interested in learning simple emotional tools to support friends or peers, while also reflecting on how emotional support can look different for different people. The session also invites students to explore their own understanding of what it means to comfort someone and how they want to show up for the people around them.
