On June 7th, 2026 we had a fruitful session for “Steps towards Community Phase 2” with artist Sunita Maharjan over her work at Drawing Room Kathmandu, Gyanmandala. This session exposed students to her work of art from 2013 till date. More specifically, students engaged in her “Terrace Series” from 2019 that reflects the stories of terraces in Kathmandu’s houses.
This engagement also helped us to learn about Kirtipur’s heritage and history through the lens of a resident and the fast erasure of its historical occupations such as agriculture and weaving. Maharjan also expanded on the stories of her life, her work and her process of creating an art piece.
Thank you to Sunita Maharjan and Drawing Room KTM for allowing us to experience their beautiful space and engage in the stories.
