When Words Become Songs: Rochak Dahal Leads Inspiring Music Workshop Ahead of Symposium

The pre-symposium excitement continues with a vibrant musical workshop designed for rhythm enthusiasts, aspiring songwriters, and curious learners alike. Organized by Thames Writing Center in collaboration with the Music Club of Thames, this 5-day workshop features the ever-talented and graceful singer-songwriter of contemporary Nepalese music, Rochak Dahal.

Participants will dive into the foundations of music—exploring tones, musical notes, and the creative process behind songwriting. The workshop offers a rare opportunity to understand how artists craft songs that resonate with emotion and meaning.

Titled When Words Become Songs, this workshop is more than just an exploration of music—it's a journey into artistic expression and intergenerational exchange. It invites students to discover their own rhythm and voice, connecting deeply with the broader theme of the upcoming symposium. Rochak Dahal brings not just his musical expertise but a philosophy of storytelling through sound. What students take away—whether for the symposium or their own personal growth—depends on how they choose to groove with the music of life.

The workshop will culminate in a final performance on May 16, where participants will showcase what they've learned, expressed, and created. In doing so, the School of Social Sciences continues its commitment to offering meaningful platforms for students to engage, express, and evolve.

(Thames Writing Center (WC) is a safe space for students to come and seek help with their writing, irrespective of their command over the language or their confidence regarding it. With peer-led tutoring sessions and organized events centered around academic and creative writing, the WC aims to help students become better writers and thinkers.)
